The story
A complete service: a tall faceted pot, a slop bowl, a lidded sugar, a milk jug, six cups, six saucers and six side plates. Pink roses in a loose spray, a grey-green trailing border, and a fine gold line on every rim and every handle.
The pot is the piece worth looking at. It is faceted rather than round — eight flat panels rising to the lid — which is much harder to cast and to gild, because every edge is a place the brush can slip. The gilding on this one is clean along all eight.
This is the pattern that turns up in every house on the island and in half the houses in Europe, and it is genuinely good porcelain: thin, white, and it rings. It is inexpensive because there is a great deal of it in the world, not because it is poor.
