Care
Cold machine wash, no fabric softener, dry flat in shade. Wash it before first use. It will soften considerably over the first month and then stay that way.

The story
Padmini dyes this one bath and one bath only, at about half her usual strength. Partly that is how you get the pale ochre. Mostly it is because a single light bath means far less unbonded surface dye, and unbonded dye is the part that comes out in the first washes — which, on a baby blanket, is not a thing anyone wants to think about.
Two layers of handloom cotton, bound by hand around the edge rather than machine-hemmed, so the border stays soft instead of setting into a stiff ridge. It is not quilted through the middle; there is nothing to come loose.
The pattern is small turtles, scattered rather than arranged, at whatever angle the wax happened to go on.
