Care
Keep it dry. A wet leather ball goes soft and never fully recovers. A wipe of linseed oil once a season keeps the leather from cracking, but do not oil the seam.

The story
A red leather cricket ball, stamped G.A Sports in gold. The seam is stitched in six rows of white thread and it stands proud of the surface, which is the whole point of it: a bowler grips the seam, and the raised ridge is what makes the ball deviate off the pitch and swing through the air.
Cricket is not a minor thing here. Sri Lanka won the World Cup in 1996 with a side that changed how the shorter game is played, and there is a game happening on every strip of flat ground on the island at six in the evening.
